Disneyland or Bust

We are so excited to be going to Disneyland next month!!! I haven't been for more than 13 years! California Adventure? Never seen it.

We are very excited to be staying at the Portofino in a family suite -- a separate compartment/room for the kids with a set of bunk beds for the boys and a sleeper couch for Becca. Hello! Exciting!!!

Anyway, I need your comments -- what do we need to know to best enjoy Disneyland? (especially Disneyland with kids)?

I'm tempted to do the root beer in a diaper in a bag on the stroller (to look like a messy diaper) so that people will leave it alone, but I'm really not too concerned w/the stroller. (If I did this it would mostly be for the laugh.) Any other (maybe more helpeful) tidbits? I'll take 'em all!

I've never had a problem with people touching our strollers, and we always have them loaded with bags. Be sure to get a bag cooler to stock with drinks, and food. We always pack a lunch because food and drinks are ridiculously expensive. They check all bags and coolers as you walk in but they have never said anything about bringing food in but we always put sippy cups on top so it looks like baby items. Use you fast path tickets for long line rides. You'll love California adventure. They have a fun roller coast, tower of terror, soaring over California, and lots more fun rides. I like it more than disneyland because it is less crowded. Go to disneyland first and then about 4:00 switch over to California adventure because it is less crowded. They also have fun block party parades. Get a small pouch type purse if your bringing your purse. You can strap it across your chest and wear it on all the rides so you don't have to worry about leaving it in your stroller. Also, I check on Disney.com for clearance t-shirt etc before I go and buy the kids something there to give to them while we are there so they feel like they got something but your not paying the overpriced asking price that you will see once you get there. WARNING- it is VERY commercialized now, but your kids will love it.

Hopefully it won't be too crowded for you but, we liked California Adventure because it didn't seem as crowded as the other park plus it has some rides that are more thrilling. However, they do still have stuff for the little ones. Food is very expensive. They have lockers to the left of Disneyland with picnic tables. I would suggest leaving lunch items there so you don't have to lug extra stuff around the parks. It makes for a nice break to go eat there. Decide which parade's you want to see and the other ones go get on the rides while everyone is watching the parade. Same thing during the fire work shows if you are there latter in the evening. Srollers are usually good there and as long as you don't have a bunch of bags or items that could be stollen I don't think anyone would touch it. Sunscreen, hats, and layer lightweight clothing so you can be more comfortable depending on the weather or if you get wet on Splash Mountain! Have fun! You are going to our old stopp'n ground! If the Angels are playing you should take your boys to a game as you will be right by the stadium and I don't think the nose bleed tickets are all that much. It would be a fun experience for them. One more thing is expect to stand in a line to get autographs for Characters...especially the Princess' or other popular ones. I suggest an adult stand in line while the other takes kids on rides because you can wait for awhile before the character even comes out and the younger ones just don't understand the whole line thing!

I LOVED Liz's idea to buy shirts ahead of time on clearance and give them to the kids once we get there. Last night I went to Disney.com (a PAINFULLY slow site, so I wouldn't recommend anyone go there just to peruse!) and bought shirts and pj's. They were a steal of a deal -- my 14 items (yes, 14 shirts and sets of pj's -- I couldn't stop! :) were only $70. Although that's still a lot of money, I say "only" knowing how much more we would have spent in Disnelyand had we bought even one shirt each there! Awesome tip!!!

I had no idea Disneyland had lockers. I'm LOVING these tips and hope to receive many more. :)

I feel the need to make sure all you readers know that I came through with lots of suggestions of my own, but I gave them to Denise in person. Just wanted to make sure no one thinks I am a slacker friend... :)
