Such a talented girl

Becca has been working to earn her Young Women recognition by completing various values and projects. She completed her last project just shy of turning 15, which happens in two weeks.

For those of you not familiar with the young women projects, well, you should be impressed. :) To earn it, the girls have to complete six goals and then a 10-hour project in each of seven values (faith, divine nature, individual worth, knowledge, choice and accountability, good works, and integrity). The church just added an eighth (virtue) that girls will need to complete as well. Our program leaders said if girls finished before March 31, then they wouldn't need to do the requirements for virtue. However, Becca decided she would just go ahead and do it anyway, and she has finished all of her projects.

Some of the things she did for her projects included earning money to buy her own scriptures and then marking relevant scriptures in the colors of the YW values; writing personal stories of lessons she has learned in her life wrt choices; serving at the library for 10 hours; learning more about drama by participating in the Joseph play last year; sewing her own modest clothing; and sewing heirloom-type things, including embroidering a handkerchief she used at a temple dedication and sewing a blessing dress for a future daughter.

She's done a great job on these projects, and she's found some great talents that will serve her well throughout life. (I should also mention that Becca also just brought home a 4.0 GPA. Yes!)

Anyway, I thought I'd share some of her work in these pics. She made both this shirt and skirt:

And here is the blessing dress she sewed for a future baby. I keep telling her she just cursed herself to have all boys. ;)

My favorite part (and not just because it was my idea :) is the flowers on the front. Aren't those cute? We had to buy clear thread to sew them on. I never knew they made clear thread ...

Way to go Becca!

Amazing! Congratulations, Becca!! What a wonderful accomplishment. That dress is out of this world cool. Sewing baby clothes is incredibly hard. I know how much work is involved in the Young Women's Recognition award and also the great personal and spiritual growth that accompanies the person involved. Way to go! And that is outstanding about the 4.0. You can do anything in life if you keep up those grades.

All the best,
Melissa

That is very impressive! The blessing dress is absolutely beautiful. My daughter has the same goal to finish her Personal Progress before she turns 15 (she has until October). I am glad she has a little while before her birthday because reading the entire Book of Mormon will probably take her that long! Congrats Becca... you are an amazing young woman!

What a beautiful skirt and shirt!! I love the dress with the flowers, thats soo cute!!!
Thankyou so much for advising me to call them. I finally called the doctors office. The lady told me he should call me soon. She was surprised he hasn't yet. Funny thing is the same day, (yesterday), I get a call from the surgeons office. They said that I could come in this next monday. I explained that I need to change my ticket. So, I have an appointment for May 4th. Im hoping this means that they will be able to do the surgery and fix my rib cage, but im not going to get my hopes up too much, even though they already are. :) If I get married and have a baby in the future i'll have to get Becca to make my baby a dress if its a girl or a tux if its a boy. :) She really is gifted and talented. I love you guys!! :) ~Jamie~

lol!! Yeah, if they don't get the records in the next couple of weeks im going to call them and find out whats going on. If they try to give me the run around ill go there myself and get them. I have my own copies from Childrens Hospital, but I dont have them all. I only have the "freebies." So, its annoying because there are over 300 and it would cost a ton. So, its annoying. They should get there. Its just so funny cause the University of WA medical center is like JUST up the street from Childrens. :) Thats so funny that you get red cheeks!! I'm so glad im not the only one with an annoying thing. I'll definitely take your advice if they don't get it in the next couple of weeks. Love ya!! ~Jamie~ :)

I love these! Both your clothes and the baby blessing gown look incredible! Becca, I'm so proud of you! I'm so glad I got to see these pictures! You are so together and prepared for the future. That is such a great asset to have. And I'm so amazed that you are able to complete your Personal Progress so early. You are so responsible and have great initiative! These are qualities that will help you all through your life. Show me more as you do other projects, if you can.

Love, Mom
